The Titanic Exhibition Centre (TEC), located in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter has announced its permanent closure due to structural damage caused by severe weather.
Opened in September 2015, TEC was Belfast’s largest dedicated exhibition space, accommodating up to 6,000 people.
The venue had the ability to host 200 exhibitors and over 5,000 visitors, making it a significant player in the city’s events industry.
Over the years, it hosted events such as The Wedding Journal Show, Irish Muscle Power Expo, and BRICKLIVE.
In a statement, TBL International, the management company behind TEC Belfast, explained the decision to wind down operations in December 2024:
“Despite an ongoing programme of maintenance at the venue, the increase in severe inclement weather over the past number of years, including storms in January and April, has had a detrimental impact on the fabric of the venue. TEC Belfast was on its third approved term of planning permission for a temporary structure, with the current permissions in place until October 2027. The team at TBL International has been working with longstanding clients over the past few months to secure alternative venues for their future events, with the majority of the events being kept within the city.”
Visit Belfast, the city’s destination marketing organisation, commented on the closure of the venue:
“Following the announcement of the closure of the Titanic Exhibition Centre, the city has worked efficiently to accommodate all planned events, which are still taking place across the Belfast City Region. With a range of alternative award-winning venues, Belfast remains well-equipped to compete for business nationally and internationally, ensuring its position as a leading business events destination.”
The closure marks the end of an era for the Titanic Quarter, but Belfast’s commitment to its thriving events industry remains strong, with alternative venues continuing to attract local and international organisers.
