Hosting more than 1,000 MICE-related events annually, Thailand’s IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center in Bangkok has been aligning its operations with the ISO 20121 Event Sustainability Management System, and is integrating a local ‘farm-to-function’ supply chain . The initiative is part of its drive towards a robust circular economy model.
“At IMPACT, we champion environmental stewardship across our operations, and our sustainability strategy focuses on three core pillars: Local Sourcing, Waste Circularity, and Community Empowerment,” said CEO of IMPACT Exhibition Management Co., Ltd Paul Kanjanapas.
IMPACT has taken direct control of its supply chain through Anant FARM and IMPACT FARM, operated by its parent company, Bangkok Land Public Company Limited.
In partnership with the Nonthaburi Chamber of Commerce, IMPACT prioritises ingredients from local vendors, reducing food miles and carbon emissions. Additionally, IMPACT now offers plant-based menus using seasonal, organic produce, and maintaining ISO 22000 food safety standards.
IMPACT has also implemented an actionable system, comprising:
- Surplus redistribution: Edible surplus food is donated to local non-profits, supporting food security in surrounding communities.
- Waste-to-resource: Inedible waste—including organic scraps and peels – is processed into high-quality organic fertiliser used to maintain the green spaces and on-site farms within Muang Thong Thani.
- Plastic elimination: IMPACT has transitioned to 100% compostable disposables, including biodegradable bags and utensils, sourced from eco-aligned partners.
The Centre’s initiatives empower local communities by strengthening the long-term sustainability of small businesses, delivering capacity-building workshops for local SMEs and vendors, and creating flexible employment opportunities.
“Sustainability at IMPACT is not just a policy; it is operational discipline. Through careful planning and responsible procurement, we can operate in harmony with the environment. We empower organisers and event planners to host their events sustainably. Eco-friendly events are not just possible, but preferable,” the CEO concluded.
