Integrated events group GL events has announced it has been selected by Mongolia’s Municipality of Ulaanbaatar to provide the temporary infrastructures for COP17 to combat desertification. The conference will take place in the Mongolian capital 17-28 August 2026.
The 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is expected to bring together nearly 10,000 delegates from more than 190 countries, under the slogan: ‘Restore Nature, Revive Hope’.
Mongolia’s capital Ulaanbaatar will see temporary structures installed on the outskirts of the city. The Mongolian authorities chose the GL events group as part of an international tender and following a three-stage selection process. Around 44,500sqm of temporary structures will be needed to accommodate the delegates.
GL events received the official award letter, 11 February 2026, and the group has already participated in 11 COP conferences between 2011 and 2024, including the most recent COP16 held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Olivier Ginon, chairman-CEO of GL events group, commented: “This new contract reflects the confidence placed in our group, which has become an expert in supporting major global events on behalf of international organisations. I would like to thank the Municipality of Ulaanbaatar, with whom we will deploy operational teams as quickly as possible to deliver services that meet the highest international standards.”
