Nineteen jailed over 2024 Islamic State attack at Moscow Crocus complex

A Russian court has handed down life sentences to 15 Islamic State terrorists and jailed four others for between 19 and 22 years for their roles in a terror shooting in Moscow’s Crocus Complex on 22 March 2024. The four primary gunmen were all citizens of Tajikistan and were jailed with accomplices two years following their attack at a concert hall adjacent to the Crocus Exhibition Centre that killed over 140 people and left more than 600 injured.

Over 5,900 people had been in the hall when the ISIS-K gunmen struck. While the main violence and fire occurred in the concert hall, the exhibition space was also impacted, with children participating in a ballroom dancing competition within the complex forced to flee during the attack.

In March 2025, a permanent memorial for the victims was inaugurated in front of both the concert venue and the second pavilion of the Crocus Expo.

The group which claimed responsibility for the shooting is an ISIS offshoot which seeks to establish a Muslim Caliphate in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and the surrounding region.
