SNIEC begins venue-wide upgrade

The Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC), which hosted a total of 127 exhibitions and events with a venue occupancy rate of 64% over 300,000sqm in 2025 says it is taking advantage of the Lunar New Year break with no exhibitions in the venue, to launch a major upgrade throughout. It begins with the air conditioning in the West Halls and No. 1 Entrance Lobby, with refurbishment to the 152 restrooms continuing.

Ongoing hardware upgrade projects have been scheduled as to not impact client events and exhibitions and are designed to enhance the customer experience and fulfil the commitment for exceptional “S+” level service for organisers, exhibitors, sponsors, and guests/visitors.

Michael Kruppe, CEO & GM said: “To create a more, efficient, stable, and intelligent modern indoor environment, SNIEC launched an upgrade project for the air conditioning system. The project follows the principle of holistic planning, phased implementation.”

Construction is being carried out in two phases  and the upgrade involves the installation of more energy-efficient units with greater cooling capacity and airflow, leading to an overall improvement in cooling efficiency and system energy performance.

Upgrades are simultaneously being made to the sewage and ventilation systems, effectively improving air quality, and efforts are being made to increase the number of restroom units (where feasible) to alleviate congestion during peak hours.

Furthermore, the project incorporates low-carbon options in the selection of materials and equipment.

SNIEC is a Sino-German joint venture and one of China’s most established exhibition venues, serving as a bridge between global businesses and the Chinese market for 24 years.
