Stuttgart in Germany is to host its first XR EXPO 28-29 April 2026. The specialist event for next-generation technologies, including Extended Reality (XR), is relocating to Messe Stuttgart, who will organise it jointly with the Virtual Dimension Center (VDC), a German competence network for virtual reality.
XR EXPO comprises an exhibition, congress and workshops and is aimed at trade visitors from the key areas of industry, health, construction, commerce, trade and other technical fields. It will be a platform for technology and software development companies, industry partners, research institutes, start-ups and representatives from education, politics and various associations.
Extended Reality (XR) is an umbrella term for immersive technologies that create digital content for blending virtual and physical realities – and includes everything from Virtual Reality (VR) to Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR) and the Metaverse. These are exactly the applications at the heart of XR EXPO, where companies and research institutes demonstrate their latest developments and experts discuss the possibilities for this technology in the various industries.
“With XR EXPO, we are expanding our portfolio in the area of next-generation technologies with another fast-growing segment,” said Guido von Vacano, executive vice-president at Messe Stuttgart. “Our aim, together with the VDC, is to establish a leading platform for the professional application of XR technologies and promote the international appeal of this event.”
Following years in Baden-Württemberg’s Haus der Wirtschaft and other locations, as well as an initial expansion in 2024 to the Schleyerhalle together with the ‘Virtual Worlds’, the move to Stuttgart’s trade fair grounds marks a new milestone in maximising reach and visibility, as well as promoting potential for growth.
“With the move to Stuttgart’s trade fair grounds, we are starting a new chapter in the development of XR EXPO,” said professor Christoph Runde, managing director of the VDC.
One new feature will be a newly structured trade fair hall, arranged according to the various sectors. A congress conference programme will be addressing various topics, such as Industrial XR, XR Training, GovTech XR, Healthcare XR, as well as AI & XR. 2026 will also see the focus shift to include architecture, commerce and trade.
