NOWIE unveils pioneering research project

The Network of Women in Events (NOWIE) has launched a pioneering annual research survey for women in the events industry, aimed at understanding the challenges faced by women in this sector.

Established in 2013, NOWIE has recently transitioned to a Community Interest Company, enhancing its capacity to drive change.

Through women-focused networking opportunities, community initiatives, and mentorship programmes, NOWIE is dedicated to creating a more inclusive and equitable events industry for women at all career stages.

Its latest initiative, The Big Survey for Women in Events, will explore critical issues like gender discrimination, sexual harassment, and family planning, helping to drive meaningful change.

Supported by the Events Industry Forum (EIF) and The Night Time Industries Association (NTIA), the anonymous survey invites women in the events industry to share their experiences.

The findings will provide invaluable insights to advocate for a more inclusive, supportive, and equitable workplace.

Shaping the future of women in events

The survey’s results will inform future policies and initiatives, ensuring women in events can thrive professionally and personally.

A decade of progress

For ten years, NOWIE has championed gender equality in the events industry. It has created equitable pay guidelines, shared stories and insights from women in events, and built opportunities for mentorship and community.

These efforts have laid the groundwork for transformative change.

NOWIE director Cat Kevern said: “We’re excited to launch projects like The Big Survey with the potential to drive real change. With our transition to a Social Enterprise, we’re better equipped to tackle the issues women face in events.”

Research drives progress

Kevern highlighted the lack of research on women’s experiences in the events industry: Women outnumber men in this sector, yet they still face pay gaps, underrepresentation in leadership, and unequal opportunities. The Big Survey will target these critical issues and inspire much-needed policy changes.”

The survey will be distributed annually to monitor year-on-year progress, providing ongoing insights and actionable data.

Silvana Kill, director of operations at NTIA, added: “This partnership with NOWIE is vital for understanding how best to support women in the events industry workforce. Now is the time to prioritise diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing.”

How to participate

The fully anonymous survey invites women from all areas of the events sector to share their workplace experiences, including topics like workplace harassment, childcare, maternity, pay, and career opportunities.
