Aquaculture UK moves to SEC Glasgow for 2026 edition

Scotland’s new minister for agriculture, marine and the islands, Jim Fairlie, will officially open Aquaculture UK (a biennial show for the fish farming and seafood production industry) at the SEC in Glasgow tomorrow, 16 June. This will mark the first time the event has been staged at the Scottish Event Campus after its move from Aviemore.

The two-day exhibition runs 16-17 June. More than 250 exhibitors from over 20 countries will be taking part, with first-time national pavilions from Norway and Ireland. Organisers report they are expecting record crowds.

The free-to-attend conference opens with Salmon Scotland CEO Tavish Scott speaking on growth opportunities under the new government. Professor Mark Inall, the Scottish Government’s chief scientific advisor marine, will then update delegates on improvements to SEPA’s sea lice regulatory framework. Briefings from Innovation Norway and Salmon Scotland will explore deeper collaboration on aquaculture innovation between the two countries, while sessions will cover opportunities for expansion into land-based fish farming and commercial prawn production in Scotland.

Among the highlights is the new Innovation Zone, where Edinburgh Innovations – the University of Edinburgh’s commercialisation arm – will introduce spin-out MiAlgae. The company has developed a process for producing fish-free omega-3 from algae grown on whisky by-products.

The Aquaculture Awards 2026 will be presented at a gala dinner at the Hilton Glasgow on June 17, with 13 prizes recognising contributions to the sector.

Event director Cheri Arvonio said: “The momentum is building for our most ambitious show yet, and we can’t wait to welcome the aquaculture community to Glasgow for what promises to be a truly memorable two days.”
