Bogotá Fashion Week generates $4m, boosting claim to be Latin America’s fashion capital

The Colombian capital hosted the eighth edition of Bogotá Fashion Week (BFW) which ran for four days to 22 May and attracted an attendance in excess of 31,000. As well as showcasing the latest trends and collections, the event established itself as a focal point for commercial networking and the internationalisation of Colombian fashion industry talent and innovation.

Local sellers met 80 international buyers from 22 countries during over 1,000 appointments at the ‘Wholesale’ business roundtables. Buyers came from key markets such as the United States, France, the UK and Mexico. The business exchange meetings generated commercial expectations in excess of $4m, likely to rise to over $10m within a year. The event also featured 27 runway shows.

National promotion agency ProColombia has been instrumental in marketing the event which has, in turn, boosted the country’s image as a fashion hub in the region. The president of the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce, Ovidio Claros Polanco, emphasised the importance of creating a Bogotá Fashion Week that not only highlights talent, but also promotes sustainability and inclusion in the sector.

In addition to fashion shows and talks, Bogotá’s Ágora Convention Center venue provided dynamic spaces for brands to exhibit and for industry professionals and emerging talent to meet, talk and network.
