The 2025 edition of the International Federation of Exhibition and Events Services (IFES) annual World Summit recently concluded in Mexico, bringing over 200 participants from across the world to Expo Guadalajara. The Summit offered three days of connection and insight under this year’s theme: ‘Transforming Learnings into a Sustainable Future’.
Guadalajara proved to be more than a host city, it became an essential part of the Summit’s narrative, shining a light on the importance of the Latin American region in the global events landscape.
A highlight of the conference was the keynote session with Carlos Mats, a multidisciplinary technologist and global thought leader, who led a discussion on Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). Describing it as “the last invention of humankind,” Mats explored the sweeping changes this next wave of technology could bring to our industry and the wider world.
Another standout session came from Daphne S. Leger, a change and innovation expert, who shared her insights on ‘Future-Proof Changeability’. She outlined some essential keys to adaptability, providing practical tools for navigating change in both professional and personal settings.
The local perspective was equally compelling, with Gustavo Staufert, general director of the Guadalajara–Guadalajara brand, showcasing the city’s rich heritage and growing influence in the international meetings industry.
Concluding the programme Felipe Linares, creative director at COCOLAB, delivered a powerful talk on crafting immersive experiences. “Worldbuilding is not just design, it’s the shaping of emotions and meaning into space,” he shared, reminding attendees to embrace the power of storytelling in creating memorable environments.
The conference also saw panel discussions tackling topics ranging from sustainable stand construction and talent retention to the evolving dynamics between service providers, venues, and organisers. Delegates explored the value of reverse mentorship and unpacked how to navigate the growing shift toward experiential marketing, sharing diverse perspectives and identifying shared goals for the future.
IFES now looks ahead with excitement to Dubai 2026, where the conference theme ‘Beyond Boundaries’ will invite members to push limits, embrace innovation, and further shape the future of exhibitions.
