Industry leaders celebrate Nick Marshall’s 40-year career at retirement lunch

Industry stalwart Nick Marshall has retired after almost 40 years working in the exhibitions industry.

Marshall began his career in exhibitions as finance manager for Melville Exhibition Services in 1985. He held senior industry positions including managing director at Melville, plus CEO and executive chairman at GES EMEA.

To celebrate Marshall’s career, GES EMEA president Jason Stead, tfconnect chairman Trevor Foley, and his wife Catherine Marshall organised a surprise retirement lunch on 7 June, attended by industry friends and colleagues at The Fable’s private dining space in London.

Speeches were given by Nineteen Group MD Alison Jackson, Moss CEO Jason Popp, and GES’s Stead before Marshall reflected on his career and thanked guests for coming.

The Association of Event Organisers CEO, Chris Skeith OBE attended the lunch. He said: “What an incredible occasion it was, filled with so many memories and legends from the industry Nick has contributed so much to.

“For almost 40 years, Nick has been a guiding light who always had a unique ability to bring people together in the pursuit of better solutions. I loved the old Melville Christmas Parties when he was MD, and the infamous Lion Ice Vodka Luge – such an extravagant and enjoyable affair, hugely generous by today’s standards and even more so for the time. It was a lovely turnout for a lovely man.”
