New CEO of Messe Berlin announced

The Supervisory Board of Messe Berlin GmbH has announced, 10 May, the appointment of Dr Mario Tobias (pictured) as the new CEO of the group of companies. The 51-year-old is moving from the Potsdam Chamber of Industry and Commerce to Messe Berlin.

From 1 September, 2023, Dr Tobias, together with managing director Dirk Hoffmann, will manage the Messe Berlin group of companies with its eight subsidiaries and nine international participations in Berlin.

Hoffmann has been the CFO of the group of companies since 2015 and has been the acting chief until Dr Tobias’s appointment. Tobias follows on from Martin Ecknig who stepped down from the post last autumn amidst some contract controversy.

“With Dr Mario Tobias, we are gaining an outstanding personality with more than 20 years of experience in corporate governance, economic policy and management. With his strategic skills and his excellent competence in organisational development, customer and service orientation, coupled with his leadership and transformation experience and his network in important future fields such as digitisation and sustainability management, he is the ideal person to fill the position. He will give Messe Berlin new impetus and lead our company holistically into a sustainably successful future,” says Eric Schweitzer, chairman of the Supervisory Board of Messe Berlin. “My special thanks go to Dirk Hoffmann, who has been extremely successful in bringing Messe Berlin back to its former strengths over the past few months.”

Dr Tobias has been the general manager at the Potsdam Chamber of Industry and Commerce since 2014. It is the second largest area chamber in Germany.
