Cho Sang-hyun appointed CEO of Coex for three-year term

Coex has appointed Cho Sang-hyun as its new CEO for a three-year term running from March 2025 to March 2028. The appointment was confirmed at a shareholders’ meeting on 26 March chaired by Korea International Trade Association’s (KITA) Yoon Jin-sik.

Cho was formerly director of KITA’s International Trade and Commerce Research Institute. He brings over three decades of experience in international trade.

Cho joined KITA in 1990 and has held senior roles including head of the Startup Global Support Office.

A native of Busan, Cho holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Pusan National University, a master’s in Logistics Systems Engineering from Korea Maritime & Ocean University, and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Pusan National University.

Coex is Korea’s leading convention and exhibition venue, located in Seoul’s Gangnam district and operated by KITA since 1979.

Prior to his new role, Cho has had an active voice in the world of global commerce – particularly with regard to Korea’s relationship with China and the USA.

In November 2024, he was quoted in Korea Daily saying that Trump’s tariffs “could further dampen the growth momentum of Korea’s exports”. He also believes that Southeast Asian countries, that are busy expanding their manufacturing bases, are an “essential market” for South Korea to engage with (The Chosun).

“Cho’s deep understanding of the global trade environment and his strategic leadership will help further strengthen Coex’s platform for supporting Korean companies in reaching international markets,” said Yoon Jin-sik, chairman of KITA.
