Inaugural International Smart Space Exhibition draws the crowds in Hanzhou

The inaugural edition of International Smart Space Exhibition (ISSE), and the concurrent Global Digital Trade Expo (GDTE) which ran at China’s Hangzhou Grand Convention and Exhibition Center, 25–29 September 2025, recorded over 257,000 visits, organisers reported.

ISSE hosted approximately 160 brands showcasing products and solutions in the areas of ‘Intelligent Buildings and Smart Parks’, ‘Urban Public Spaces’, ‘Smart Commercial Spaces’ and ‘Smart Living’.

ISSE arranged a series of guided tours and international business matching sessions for visitor groups from around the globe.

Members of the local council from Gyeonggi-do, South Korea participated in the ISSE Opening Ceremony. They sought to explore opportunities within the smart space sector and foster closer collaboration between Chinese and Korean companies.

Other visiting groups included: the Cambodia Intelligent Technology Trade Cooperation Delegation; the Thailand Smart Office Industry Representative Group; the Singapore Facility Management Group; the Indonesia Government Delegation for Smart Cities and Digital Infrastructure; the UAE Digital Discovery Group; the Zhejiang Province Computer and Digital Technology Association Group, the Parking Services Industry Association Group and the China National Standards Committee Group.

“Our booth presented smart gerontechnology and commercial spaces integrated with the metaverse. ISSE drew a significant number of visitors, with about 30% of attendees coming from overseas, many showing strong interest in the integration of intelligent systems into daily life. Beyond showcasing products, the event played a key role in engaging with potential users and promoting the smart space industry,” said Dr Freeman Wang, China executive president, Shanghai Léwin Intelligent Technology Co Ltd.

“Our goal at ISSE was to explore business opportunities and build partnerships with leading technology companies. The experience was very rewarding, with many attendees visiting our stand. Digital technologies have vast potential in architectural spaces, particularly in energy-efficient office environments. By digitally managing energy use in areas such as lighting and air conditioning, businesses can achieve significant improvements in efficiency and sustainability, paving the way for promising market opportunities,” said Mr Micheng Wang, CEO, HONYAR.

Buyer comments on the show included from Mr Un Bon Park, director, Gyeonggi Business Center, Chongqing (South Korea), who said: “We organised a delegation of councillors from Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, to ISSE, focusing on future technologies. As policymakers supporting technology enterprises, they showed keen interest in China’s advancements in AI, big data, and Large Language Models. While South Korea focuses on urban surveillance, China’s smart cities are integrated into daily life, providing valuable insights for us. This visit provided a great opportunity to connect with local companies, and we are considering returning next year.”

The first edition featured 11 forums that brought together government representatives, industry experts, and business leaders from around the world. Discussions covered a range of topics, such as green buildings, smart cities, energy conservation and carbon reduction, intelligent operations and maintenance, smart office environments, smart parking, standardisation, as well as opportunities for overseas expansion.

A key event of the show, the ‘ISSE International Smart Space Summit’ centred on data-driven innovation, urban renewal and sustainability, delving into the evolution of smart space from various angles.

International Smart Space Exhibition (ISSE) is co-organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd and Hangzhou Expo Group. The next edition of the show will return 23–27 September 2026. For more information, visit: www.smartspaceexhibition.com.
